Schonefeld International Airport
Schonefeld International Airport is actually not located in Berlin proper, but rather near the Berlin-Brandenburg border. Built in the early 1930s, Schonefeld International Airport is one of Europe’s oldest airports.
Major construction is currently being completed on Schonefeld International Airport, with the aim of consolidating all of air traffic in Berlin and Brandenburg. Once completed, surrounding airports will be closed down, namely Tegel and Tempelhof.
Schonefeld International Airport (abbreviated in aviation circles as SXF) normally serves just under 10 million passengers annually, but this is bound to rise to tens of millions upon its conversion into the bigger Berlin Brandenburg International Airport in mid 2011. Schonefeld International Airport has 4 terminals, namely terminal A, terminal B, terminal C and terminal D. |
